Copenhagen concentrates its efforts on Fintech

17 April 2015

Through collaboration with the financial sector, Copenhagen will now focus its efforts on new companies that develop technological solutions for the financial sector. The aim is to create economic growth and new jobs.
For many years, the Danish Bankers Association has focused on and financed the effort to develop finance and IT innovation (Fintech), among other things, as the initiator of CFIR (Copenhagen Fintech Innovation and Research). It is therefore very positive that the City of Copenhagen also aims at this field in the effort to create economic growth and jobs in the Copenhagen Region.
The idea is to develop Copenhagen into a regional centre with greater focus on entrepreneurship and export potential. The ambition is that Copenhagen should be comparable with cities, such as New York and London, where there is a strong focus on new companies that develop technological solutions for the financial sector.
The City of Copenhagen, led by the Mayor of Employment and Integration, Anna Mee Allerslev, has thus entered a dialogue with i.a. the Danish Bankers Association, the Financial Services Union Denmark and CFIR about the development of Copenhagen as a Nordic Fintech centre.
“Denmark already has a highly developed digital infrastructure and we have a strong position within Fintech niches, such as mobile banking and IT security. In order to take maximum advantage of existing strengths, it is important that private and public actors work together,” says Deputy Chief Executive, Louise C. Mogensen.
Louise C. Mogensen points out that the City of Copenhagen’s support is a great start on an exciting collaboration, and a signal that Copenhagen has ambitions within the Fintech area.
