The winners of the Danish Money Week

13 March 2015

As part of the Danish Money Week, 2,133 teams from Denmark’s 7-8th grades participated in a web-based dilemma game. The winners were class 7.A from Bækkegårdsskolen (Danish folkeskole) in Ølstykke and class 8.D from Torstorp skole (Danish folkeskole) in Tåstrup, which each won a prize of DKK 10,000 besides the honour.

“This has almost been too exciting. It is absolutely crazy that we won. We will use the money to throw a party with our parallel class, which we have competed against all week,” said 7.A on Bækkegårdsskolen in Ølstykke, when they Friday afternoon received the news that they had won the dilemma game competition as the country’s best seventh grade.

“It has been fun to learn about money and personal finance in a whole new way,” said the young winners, who had used a whole school day during the Danish Money Week to play the dilemma game.

7.A was applauded and celebrated in style. Bækkegårdsskolen had gathered all of the school’s pupils in the canteen for the award ceremony – a prize of DKK 10,000 from the Danish Bankers Association.

On Torstop skole in Tåstrup, the students almost could not believe that they had won. “This is the first time we have held the web-based dilemma game during the Danish Money Week. A total of 2,133 teams from all over the country have participated – it is very overwhelming. The feedback from teachers and students has been very positive. The competition element has really motivated the pupils. So congratulations to 8.D with the title of Denmark’s best eighth grade,” said Christian Michelsen, Manager at the Danish Bankers Association, while handing over the visible proof of the victory, a cheque for DKK 10,000.

Friday afternoon was the heyday of the competition celebration, where the pupils got the cheque in their hands.
